I’m curious about this: Is eharmony free for the first month? I’ve tried a bunch of “free” apps, but a lot of them lock messaging, photos, or even basic filters behind a paywall.

If an app asks for card details “just to verify,” I treat it as a red flag unless it’s a well-known brand and the flow is clearly explained. I’m mainly trying to avoid surprise renewals and sketchy verification pages.

If you’ve found options that are genuinely usable for free (or at least transparent about limits), what worked for you — and what should people avoid?

A quick perspective from my side: One trick: read the feature matrix in the settings — some apps are free to browse but paid to message, while others are the opposite. For mainstream options, people still mention Facebook Dating, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Hinge, Tinder, Bumble — just watch the messaging limits and fake profiles.

If you want an alternative to compare against, you can check Souldate and see whether the free tier feels usable for your area. Hope that helps — and trust your gut with anything that feels off.

  • Set boundaries early
  • Reverse-image search suspicious photos
  • Use strong privacy settings
  • Don’t share IDs or banking info
  • Keep chats on-platform at first

One trick: read the feature matrix in the settings — some apps are free to browse but paid to message, while others are the opposite. I’ve rotated through datescout.site, turndate.site, luvdate.site when I just want to browse who’s active without committing. If the vibe turns weird, block and move on. Plenty of real people out there.
